Launching on 26, August 2011, this game promises to give fans what they have been waiting for. From the warm ups right through to the finals, players will have to take on the world as they negotiate their way through 20 teams in stunning national stadia, official strips and logo’s and uncanny player likeness’ and minute detail.

Rugby League World Cup in two years is coming to the UK and North Yorkshire is part of the bidding process began.

A bid of the sports governing body submitted by a consortium of Ryedale District Council, Ampleforth Abbey Trading Limited and the North Yorkshire Rugby League Development group.

Ryedale’s community projects officer, Chris Chatten, said: “Over the last few months we have been working with key partners to put plans in place to offer sustainable opportunities to participate in rugby league with Ryedale which is currently an untapped area for development.

“Securing the World Cup would help accelerate the development of the sport in this area and give residents from across York and North Yorkshire the opportunity to engage with the tournament.”

The general manager of RL side York City Knights, Ian Wilson, said: “Hosting a team would be fantastic for Ryedale and North Yorkshire as a county and the facilities at Ampleforth would be perfect for this.

“We would hope the bid proves to be a success to enhance rugby league development across wider North Yorkshire improving player pathways into a professional club environment.”

Community sport centre manager Jay Rowley added: “Hosting a training camp would provide players and coaches from around the county the opportunity to see international players and training methods first hand and raise the level of interest for people wanting to participate in rugby league activity within our centre.”
